🐝 Continuing Our Beekeeping Journey 🐝
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve continued learning more about beekeeping through our training with the Chalfonts Beekeeping Society — and we’ve been really enjoying the experience.
During our recent sessions, we had the opportunity to see and learn about some of the essential beekeeping equipment, including smokers, hive tools, bee suits, and protective clothing. It’s been fascinating learning how each tool is used to safely care for bee colonies and inspect hives properly.
We’ve already learned so much in a short amount of time, and every session is helping us build more confidence and understanding as we continue our journey into beekeeping.
One particularly important topic we learned about was the Asian hornet, which is now present in parts of the UK and poses a serious threat to honey bee colonies and other pollinators.
As part of our training, we learned how to identify Asian hornets and why it’s so important to report any sightings quickly. If spotted, sightings should be reported to the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) to help protect local bee populations.
We’re excited to keep learning more and to continue sharing our beekeeping journey with everyone following Meadowtail Farm 🐝🌿
